Cat sterilization: why it is necessary

La sterilizzazione del gatto
Which are the real benefits of this surgery?

Sterilization increases cat's life expectancy reducing many potentially dangerous situations

Many cats’ owners still don’t want to hear about sterilization; however, it’s important to know the benefits of this surgery, which is performed under general anesthesia by a vet. Escaping, fightings and infections are all potentially dangerous situations for your furry friend. Sterilization reduces a lot the occurrence of all these situations and also increases cat’s life expectancy.
Statistically, a non-sterilized cat lives 6-10 years, while a sterilized one lives 13-18. Let’s see why:

  • First of all, sterilized cats tend to be more sedentary, so the risk of being runned over or of getting lost is considerably reduced;
  • Being more sedentary also means less injuries like scratches, bites or “fights” with other animals. As a consequence, the risk of contracting other diseases will decrease too;
  • After sterilization, the risk of infections and tumors for female cats is considerably reduced.

Furthermore, cats’ behaviour gets better if we consider their “exuberance”: when male or female cats are in heat, they usually mark their territory urinating everywhere (even at home!). After sterilization, all typical behaviours of the heat period, including those poignant meows (day and night) which we all know well, tend to stop.

However, it’s important to remember that after sterilization your cat will be more subjected to obesity, because this surgery causes hormonal changes. Therefore, you’ll have to take all these changes into consideration and consequently adapt your cat’s nutrition.
Oasy Adult Sterilized is a complete food, specifically formulated for sterilized cats. It includes inulin, which is a source of FOS prebiotics (fructo-oligosaccharides). Together with MOS (mannan oligosaccharides), they promote a correct balance of the intestinal bacterial flora. In addition, beet pulp helps support digestive health. The correct amount of phosphorous and magnesium promotes the health of the urinary tract, while the high amount of fibres makes your cat feel fuller, thus helping to control her hunger between one meal and the other.
